What Is the Fastest Way to Do Your Laundry?
Doing laundry is one of the most hated household chores, due to the time, labour and effort it takes each week. So time-consuming is the task, that the average Brit spends 102 minutes per week washing clothes, which equates to 177 days in a lifetime!
Have you ever wondered, what is the fastest way to do your laundry? Well, we will answer this question in this article, so keep reading to learn our advice on doing laundry under a time crunch.
What is the fastest way to do your laundry?
Picture this: you are rushing around in the morning to get ready for work, or to see your kids off to school. Suddenly, you spill tea down your shirt, or you notice a giant ink stain on your child’s uniform. Now, you need to find spare clean clothing, and think about washing that dirty item, but you need to re-wear it as soon as possible.
We have all been there. So, what is the fastest way to do your laundry?
Follow our neat hacks below, to save you precious time when doing your laundry:
- Pre-treat stubborn stains only
It will save you so much time if you tackle the stains on your clothing, rather than washing the item in soapy water and waiting for it to dry.
If your stain is oily or greasy: then blot it with a dry paper towel and then add a few drops of washing up liquid and bicarbonate of soda. This will create a paste. Use an old toothbrush to work the paste into the stain, and then let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Then, rinse out the paste and allow the item to dry.
If you need to remove armpit stains from your clothing: mix baking soda with warm water, to form a paste. Work the paste into the sweat stains on your garment, and let the garment sit for 30 to 60 minutes. With this method, the paste should hopefully absorb the sweat stain.
To remove dirt and mud stains from clothing, apply a few drops of laundry detergent to the stain and massage it into the fabric- to help it penetrate dep down into the fibres. Allow the detergent to soak. This should hopefully lift the dirt from the fabric.
- Find an on-demand laundry service
Another speedy method of getting your clothes clean and dry, is by turning to an on-demand laundry service (such as ours at Love2Laundry).
An on-demand laundry service allows you to get your dirty laundry washed, dried and folded, and returned to you, usually within a couple of days (or faster!)
The laundry service may offer pick-up and drop-off options, so you won’t even need to leave your home in order to get your clothes professional cleaned. Alternatively, the laundry service may ask you to drop off and collect your items at a physical storefront.
Using a laundry service is a huge time-saver, because you can choose whichever time slot works for you, and your clothes will be cleaned to a brilliant, professional finish.
It is especially convenient if the laundry service has a mobile app, so you can arrange for your laundry to be done, with just a click of your fingers.
- Get your clothes professionally dry cleaned
Have you ever spilled a beverage on your favourite dress or suit, but you can’t throw it in the washing machine, because it is not machine washable?
Then, perhaps dry cleaning is what is the fastest way to do your laundry.
A professional dry cleaner doesn’t use water and soap to clean your clothes; instead, they use a chemical solvent to lift impurities and stubborn stains and remove foul odours. Then, the clothes are usually pressed, to remove wrinkles, before they are returned to you, hung up neatly, ready to put back in your wardrobe, or to be re-worn!
As you can see, dry cleaning is an amazingly fast way to get your dirty clothes cleaned. It saves you the laborious act of washing and drying your clothes yourself, while it also means that there is less risk of colours running, which can happen over time with washes.
- Use the ‘quick wash’ setting on your washing machine
Some washing machines (but not all) have a ‘quick wash’ setting, which reduces the wash time down significantly.
This feature is the fastest setting on the washing machine. It spins the clothes faster, which extracts more water from them and enables them to dry more quickly.
Usually, the ‘quick wash’ cycle takes between 15 minutes to an hour to wash your dirty laundry. This is actually a fantastic way to save on your energy bills, as it uses up less electricity and water than a regular wash cycle. It also enables your washing machine to run for less time, which naturally extends the lifespan of the washing machine.
The ‘quick wash cycle’ is most effective for light stains and soiling, rather than older, more stubborn stains.
- Sort your dirty laundry with zipped mesh bags
Ever washed something in the washing machine, but it came back torn or damaged? This definitely adds more and more minutes to the task of doing laundry, which is already so time-consuming.
A useful hack to speed up your laundry is to sort your dirty items in zipped mesh bags.
Putting dirty items in mesh laundry bags protects them from being damaged
Don’t choose mesh bags with drawstrings- these can snag or get caught in your washing machine.
Laundry mesh bags are designed for delicate items and ‘fine washables’, such as lingerie, underwear, swimming costumes, socks and pillow cases.
Simply load your delicate items into the mesh bags, before placing them in the washing machine for a regular wash.
You can wash other fabrics inside a mesh laundry bag, such as lace, athletic wear, wool, silk, denim and velvet.
- Plan your outfits ahead of time, so that you wear less clothes and wash less clothes
The less clothing you change in and out of, the less you have to wash them.
So, why not try planning your outfits in advance, so that you know exactly what you will be wearing, on which day?
It sounds simple, but this is a fool-proof technique that will save you lots of time when doing your laundry.
- Hang your dry clothing straight away
Folding and storing clothes away can add so much time to your busy schedule. Hence, try hanging your items in your wardrobe as soon as they are dry.
Don’t let the piles of clean laundry pile up in stacks all over the house. By hanging your clean clothes, you already have them ready to wear, saving you the time to rifle through drawers and cupboards.
